Masculinity is in crisis. Male participation in religious worship, interest in marriage, and general engagement in economic and political life has drastically declined. This crisis of masculinity comes on the heels of the sexual revolution, a revolution which has brought about widespread confusion on sexual morality throughout the Church. In the face of this crisis, many have found guidance in the thought of John Paul II, whose thought includes the idea of the “feminine genius.” John Paul coined the feminine genius when women were confused about their role in society. Now that men are in crisis, it is time for the Church to explore the beauty of masculinity. Far from a toxic thing, this talk makes the case that masculinity is sacred.
